அதிகாரம் 35

RENUNCIATION

துறவு

  1. யாதனின் யாதனின் நீங்கியான் நோதல்

அதனின் அதனின் இலன்.

Yaadhenin yaadhenin neengiyaan noadhal

Adhanin adhanin ilan.

One can’t renounce all

From what he renounces – woes

He is freed; stands tall!

One who gives up his desires on whatever he does, he is freed from the woes flowing out of those things.                                            (341)

2. வேண்டின்உண் டாகத் துறக்க; துறந்தபின்

ஈண்டுஇயற் பால பல.

VaeNdin uNdaakath thurakka, thurandhapin

EeNdu iyar paala pala.

Give up all desires

All joys in this world will greet

Here in this life sure!

If one wants to be free from woes, he has to renounce all his desires in them and he is sure to get all joy and happiness here in the world. (342)

3. அடல்வேண்டும் ஐந்தன் புலத்தை விடல்வேண்டும்

வேண்டிய எல்லாம் ஒருங்கு.

AdalvaeNdum aindhan pulaththai vidalvaeNdum

VaeNdiya ellaam orungu.

Guard the senses five

By renouncing desires all

Peace you get in life!

One has to control the desires related to five senses- body, tongue(mouth), eyes, ears and nose-all things concerned must be renounced.                             (343)

4. இயல்பாகும் நோன்பிற்குஒன்று இன்மை உடைமை

மயலாகும் மற்றும் பெயர்த்து.

Iyalbaakum noanbirkkuonru inmai udaimai

Mayalaagum matrum peyarththu.

Not followed in length

Penance through dispossession

If fails, leads to rebirth!

For doing penance there should be no desires; if there are desires, penance will become ineffective leading to rebirth.             (344)

5. மற்றும் தொடர்ப்பாடு எவன்கொல் பிறப்புஅறுக்கல்

உற்றார்க்கு உடம்பும் மிகை?

Matrum thodarpaadu evankol pirappuarukkal

Utraarkku udambum migai.

Why one adds to bonds?

Saints’ goal is to be birth-free

Free the body of bonds!

For those who want to be freed from rebirth, even the body is excessive; then why he should develop desires on other things? (345)

  1. யான்எனது என்னும் செறுக்குஅறுப்பான் வானோர்க்கு

உயர்ந்த உலகம் புகும்.

Yaanenadhu ennum serukkuaruppaan vaanoarkku

Uyarndha ulagam pugum.

Give up that ego

“I and mine” – pure ignorance

To heaven they go!

Those who give up their ego-I and mine- reach the heaven better than the Gods.                                     (346)

7. பற்றி விடாஅ இடும்பைகள் பற்றினைப்

பற்றி விடாஅ தவர்க்கு.

Patrividaa idumbaikaL patrinaip

Patri vidaa dhavarkku.

Those who give up not

The ego – woes give up not

In grief they are caught!

Those who do not give up the ego of I, me and mine are caught up in woes and suffer.                                       (347)

8. தலைப்பட்டார் தீரத் துறந்தார் மயங்கி

வலைப்பட்டார் மற்றை யவர்.

Thalaippattaar theerath thurandhaar mayangi

Valaippattaar matrai yavar.

Renounced – reach heaven

Others in grief and sorrow

Great in worlds seven!

Renounced people indeed are great and attain great heights; others, steeped in ignorance will suffer.                                         (348)

9. பற்றற்ற கண்ணே பிறப்புஅறுக்கும்;மற்று

நிலையாமை காணப் படும்.

Patratra kaNNae pirappuarukkum matru

Nilaiyaamai kaaNap padum.

Renounced is birth-free

Others do have births and deaths

Fell the desire-tree!

When one renounces desires, he becomes birth-free; others will suffer birth and death and impermanence.                        (349)

10. பற்றுக பற்றற்றான் பற்றினை; அப்பற்றைப்

பற்றுக பற்று விடற்கு.

Patruga patratraan patrinai; appatrai

Patruga patru vidarkku.

Hold on to HIM firm

Who is beyond all desires

From desires be free!

Hold on only to HIM who Is beyond all desires; then only one can give up all desires and renounce.                                         (350)
