அதிகாரம் 37

BYE TO DESIRES

அவா அறுத்தல்

 

  1. அவாஎன்ப எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் எஞ் ஞான்றும்

தவாஅப் பிறப்பு ஈனும் வித்து.

Avaaenba ellaa uyirkkum engngaanrum

Thavaap pirappu eenum viththu.

The wise will say right

“Desires” the seed of all births

Give up – give a fight!

It is said that the sorrows related to human birth that continues one by one eternally is caused by the seeds of DESIRES.                                (361)

2. வேண்டுங்கால் வேண்டும் பிறவாமை; மற்று அது

வேண்டாமை வேண்டா வரும்.

VaeNdungkaal vENdum piravaamai; matru adhu

VaeNdaamai vaeNdaa varum.

For “no-more-birth” say

“Bye to desires” the right way

Follow straight – it will pay!

If at all any one desires it must be only for salvation and not a rebirth; that will come only when one gives up his desire for any and every thing.                      (362)

  1. வேண்டாமை அன்ன விழுச்செல்வம்; ஈண்டில்லை

யாண்டும் அஃதுஒப்பது இல்.

VaeNdaamai anna vizuchchelvam eeNdillai

YaaNdum ahudhu oppadhu il.

“No desires” – the wealth

No wealth richer than this wealth

Here and there that’s health!

There is no wealth more valuable than desirelessness; there is nothing else equivalent to that.                                   (363)

4.தூஉய்மை என்பது அவாவின்மை; மற்றுஅது

வாஅய்மை வேண்ட வரும்.

Thuuymai enbadhu avaavinmai matra adhu

Vaaymai vaeNda varum.

Craving is impure

Desirelessness purity

Seek after cure!

Being desireless is pure state of mind and that comes when one speaks truth.                                (364)

  1. அற்றவர் என்பார் அவாஅற்றார்; மற்றையார்

அற்றாக அற்றது இலர்.

Atravar enbaar avaa atraar; matraiyaar

Atraaga atradhu ilar.

Given up desires

They in fact are free; others

Have desires and woes!

Only those who have given up desires can be called renounced. Pthers with desires are not free and suffer.                                            (365)

6 அஞ்சுவது ஓரும் அறனே; ஒருவனை

வஞ்சிப்பது ஓரும் அவா.

Anjuvadhu oarum aranae; oruvanai

Vanjippadhu oarum avaa.

Desire denies all

Dreading desire a virtue

Give up and stand tall!

Desire has the potential to harm others; hence it is wise to fear and give up desires and that indeed is a virtue.                                                (366)

  1. அவாவினை ஆற்ற அறுப்பின் தவாவினை

தான்வேண்டும் ஆற்றான் வரும்.

Avaavinai aatra aruppin thavaavinai

ThaanvaeNdum aatraan varum.

Demolish desires

Deliverance follows straight

As per your desire!

If one gives up all desires that will be ideal; desired happy life and salvation will arrive.                                                          (367)

8. அவாஇல்லார்க்கு இல்லாகும் துன்பம்;அஃது உண்டேல்

தவாஅது மேன்மேல் வரும்.

Avaaillaarku illaakum thunbam; ahudhu uNdael

Thavaa adhu maenmael varum.

Desire less painless

Desire the cause of all woes

Drive desire strain less!

Those who have no desires will have no pain or sufferings; otherwise woes will continue to flow and harm.                                     (368)

9. இன்பம் இடையறாது ஈண்டும் அவாவென்னும்

துன்பத்துள் துன்பம் கெடின்.

Inbam idaiyaraadhu eeNdum avaavennum

ThunbaththuL thunbam kedin.

Woe of woes – desires

When given up, joy of joys

Flows and inspires!

Woes of all woes are the woes arising out of desires; if they are given up joy and pleasure will flow continuously.                                 (369)

  1. ஆரா இயற்கை அவாநீப்பின் அந்நிலையே

பேரா இயற்கை தரும்.

Aaraa iyarkai avaaneeppin annilaiyae

Paeraa iyarkai tharum.

Deadly desires shunned

Gets him the heavenly bliss

Society stands stunned!

Desires are uncontrollable; if one succeeds in giving up, he will have uninterrupted life of joy and heavenly bliss.                     (370)
