It is indeed great to be a blogger and greater it is to be with ‘wordpress’! Yet, TITLE and TAGLINE for the blog play a very important role in making the blog successful in the short and long run. Yes, right from the start an attractive TITLE leads to a good number of views which I believe honestly an indication of the blogs popularity and acceptance by the viewers/readers. TAGLINE has its own significance in making the blog effective and popular. Readers chose the blog that they would like to visit regularly by a look at the fascinating TITLE and TAGLINE.
As a ‘baby blogger’ less than a year old, I feel their significance practically.
Second day assignment from Blogger 101 is as follows.
“Day Two: Take Control of Your Title and Tagline
You set your blog’s address when you registered at WordPress.com, but your blog’s title — what readers see on your site when they visit — can be changed at any time. Today, let’s make sure you love yours.
Today’s assignment: edit your title and tagline.
The title is the first thing most readers will see.
Your title and tagline work with elements like your address and theme to give visitors context and help them decide to stick around.
Just because your blog’s address is maryjanesmith922.wordpress.com doesn’t mean you need to call your blog maryjanesmith922. Your title should reflect you.
A title is typically only a few words, so consider adding a tagline as well — a phrase that appears under your title and helps flesh it out. Think “Burger King: Have It Your Way.” To edit them, open your Customizer by heading to My Sites, and click Customize > Site Identity — here’s more detail.
For inspiration, here’s some accumulated wisdom from other WordPress bloggers. One of our favorite nuggets of advice:
Try listing adjectives that describe your personality, and play around with the words until you can tweak them into a name that’s catchy but uniquely “you.” Puns always work well. Start with certain common phrases, songs, and literary titles, and then mix the words up. Or use your own name in a clever way.
We’ve also got some examples of great taglines, along with a few tips on creating one that stands out in the blogging crowd:
Avoid repeating your site title. Your tagline is a space to share some context on what your site is about. Take advantage of it.
Keep it short and sweet. Thirty-word taglines leave us breathless.
Be original. Don’t let your blog’s tagline become another in the sea of “musings about thoughts” — make sure it tells us something about you.
(Note: there are some themes that don’t display taglines. If you enter one and don’t see it, you’re probably using one of those themes.)
Pro Tip: If you just registered your blog and aren’t thrilled with your blog’s URL, you can change that, too — here’s how.
If you’ve been blogging for a while and have an established URL, consider a redirect or custom domain instead, so that you don’t break any links to your current blog address.
If you’re already thrilled with your title or you want to do more, feel free to publish a post, too! Let readers know what inspired your title and tagline. Or just spend some time in The Commons, giving feedback to all your co-bloggers.”
Yes; my dear co-bloggers and viewers! Without actually knowing about such nuances of Blogging I TITLED my BLOG AS “ENVIUS THOUGHTS”( I am N V SUBBARAMAN- NVS THOUGHTS- ENVIUS THOUGHTS) which has been well received by my esteemed viewers and so also my TAGLINE URL https://nvsr.wordpress.com. Both have gone very well with them as is evidenced by the following figures:
(1)Today is the 348th day since the launch of my Blog on 28/02/2015
(2) Today’s post is 368th
(3) Total no. of views as I key in:29857
(4) Total no. of Viewers:20837
(5) No. of countries 188
(6) Best ever views 287 on 20/8/2015.
I am convinced that my TITLE and TAGLINE carry the viewers with them. Though there is option to change either or both of them I don’t think it is warranted now.
At this I also share with my co-bloggers annual report from the wordpress :
Here’s an excerpt:
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 25,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
