ITHACA POEM 680-MY LUCKY ENCOUNTER

Here is a communication from my loving Spanish friend Mr. GERMAIN DROOGENBROODT”

My dear Tamil friend,

Enclosed the 680th Ithaca poem. Since more than one year we hardly get other information in the media than sad news about the corona epidemy and the continuously changing, generally confusing,  measures by the governors.
But meanwhile wars,  although not anymore declared, to say it with a verse of Ingeborg Bachmann, continue, and although a handful of shameless rich people become richer day by day, the poor remain poor in so many countries on earth.

I was so fortunate to be invited 4 times at the international poetry festival in Nicaragua, one of the most fascinating poetry festivals in the world. Unfortunately, the country is even poorer than before, ruled by a revolutionary who chased a dictator and became a dictator himself. To honour the person who had the courage to organize many years an excellent poetry festival in Nicaragua and to remind our readers of its existence, I selected that nice poem of Francisco de Asís Fernández, the poet-organizer of the festival. Please translate and publish.

Best wishes

Germain

MY LUCKY ENCOUNTER

I had a lucky encounter with the swans

that marked my whole life,

a miraculous moment between the lake and the forest.

They invented stillness.

Swans know how to see inside the soul

because they do not know anger,

they are spiritual.

I was walking on the water close to the swans,

I talked to them and I felt that I touched eternity,

that I had lived for centuries in an ecstasy of divinity

where only love and I did fit.

TRANSLATION IN TAMIL by Dr. N V Subbaraman, Chennai,9840477552

.
