11 May – National Technology Day Every year National Technology Day is observed on 11 May to highlight the important role of Science in our daily lives and encourage students to opt for science as an option for a career. On this day Shakti, the Pokhran nuclear test was held on 11 May, 1998.
India’s National Technology Day on May 11 celebrates the country’s technological advancements. This day marks the date the technology industry in India earned several monumental achievements by breaking into the elite group of nations with nuclear weapons, conducting the successful flight of their first indigenous aircraft, and performing a successful test firing of the Trishul missile.
HISTORY OF NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY
We all agree that technological advancements have been some of mankind’s greatest achievements. It has definitely made our lives easier, more efficient, and more productive, and we are always thankful for that.
The people of India showed their thanks when they declared May 11 as National Technology Day in 1999, following their grand achievements in the field on that day, the previous year.
On May 11, 1998, the country conducted three successful nuclear tests at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range under Operation Shakti. Two more nuclear tests were conducted on May 13, led by late President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, which made India an official member of the elite club of nuclear power nations.
However, that was not all India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation achieved. On the same day, they also tested their first indigenous aircraft, Hansa-3, and conducted a successful test firing of the Trishul missile.
The Prime Minister at the time, declared May 11 as a day of significant achievement for the country, and National Technology Day was observed for the first time on May 11, 1999. Since then, the Technology Development Board has been honoring scientists and engineers and their technological innovations that have added to the growth of India.
It was exactly FIFTY TWO YEARS AGO THIS DAY IN 1970 that I got into wedlock with RENUKA B.A. B.T in a well known town known as UDAMALPET near the famous abode of LORD MURUGA- PALANI! I was then employed as Assistant Administrative Officer IN MY ALMA MATER LIFE INSURANCE CORPORATION OF INDIA, DIVISIONAL OFFICE COIMBATORE where I learnt the Art and Science of life and living. We lived happily with our three gems of sons: VENKATARAMAN now in Chennai,, RAMNATH now in Bangalore and Dr. Lakshman in US! All the three are married and well settled in their lives!
We spent years happily in different places like Coimbatore, Ooty, Thanjavur, Kadapa, Erode, Salem, Chennai etc. Unable to see us happy with three gems of sons, Lord Yama took her away in June 2014.
An embodiment of patience and devotion she was!
On this day our minds go to those GREAT DAYS when we happily lived!

In the Mysore ZOO, we came across a lot of FLAMINGOS, which immediately brought to our mind the GREAT FLAMINGO FESTIVAL organized by INTERNATIONAL POET SHRI PERUGU RAMAKRISHNA of NELLORE AP. I AND S.NIVETHA used to participate and present our English poems ON FLAMINGOS which we will post in the Blog separately.
I’ll a bit late today. Already 2 weeks I have pain in my throat and problems to sleep, so this morning I went to the doctor, therefore the delay. I also received from the poet translations of his poem in English, Spanish and French, but there were some differences between them, so rather than less work these translations gave me more work. Actually I still did not get a reply from China about the last verse:
In English: do all living things still follow the old ways. Whereas in Spanish it says do all living creatures follow the old ways, which seems to me more logic as “things” generally not live.
Best wishes
Germain

hAn Ancient Lotus Seed and a Ge Kiln Porcelain Jar—
Prelude
An ancient idea, like an ancient lotus seed hidden in the ground for thousands of years, suddenly, but gently activated by cool running water sprouts a bashful tender bud.
Ah, through the vicissitudes of the earth you look so familiar and yet so unfamiliar. The moment the fallen leaves and blooms are gone with the wind a new lease of life comes floating with the current. The same face, the same countenance all unchanged ever since that time thousands of years ago. What encased in fashionable clothes is the not yet evolved skeleton of the body. In the buds and among the stems and leaves, the dewdrops are glittering as in those days. The crowd is whirling and running in the wind, and in the rain the plants are shaking their heads and waving. Has anything changed to the world? Do all living things in heaven and earth still follow the old ways?
