MOON AND SEA

நிலாவும் கடலும்
for Oscar Bento

Virginal

நிலா
திருமணமாகாத கன்னிப்பெண்போல
as if no human

ever set foot on it:

தன்மேல் எவரும் கால் பதிக்காத
the moon
reflecting her beauty

அவளின் அழகை வெளிப்படுத்தி
in the azure mirror of the sea

கண்ணாடி காட்டும் கடலின் நீல நிறத்தில்
which apparently seems uninfected,

பார்வைக்கு நச்சுப்படாத
not irrevocably contaminated

சரிப்படுத்த முடியாத வண்ணம் கறைபடாமல்
with garbage and waste,
the voracity of people.

தூய்மை கெடாமல், பேரார்வமிக்க மக்களின்
குப்பைகளாலும், தேவையற்றவைகளாலும்
மாசுபடாமல்.
அழகைக் காட்டுகிறது!

ROUGH AND GENTLE!

What a fine design and shape
That no man on earth can make
Raise, recede and gallop fast
A joy to young and old at little cost!

At times gentle, sometimes rough
As in life make my feet shaky and tough
When gentle you sing like a cuckkoo
When rough you roar like a lion in frown
While gentle you fondle my feet in love
When rough you make me falter and tumble down!

I see your love for the moon in full
Yearn to reach her with all your skill
Fail to reach, back to your shell
Raise, raise again to reach but fail!

Yet leave the message loud and clear
To all those watch far and near
‘Let the world cease not efforts
Nor nurture low aim and sit in comforts! ‘

MAN FROM THE MOON

Man from the milky moon
Great people of the celestial world
Set in rocket on a pleasant noon
To glimpse the world in a different mould!

Set his feet on Indian soil
Saw its splendour in numerous hues
Marvelled at the effect of people’s toil
Wondered at her glory in all its muse!

Temple and mosque, parishes and churches
Lifting people from the mundane clutches
Mountains and valleys, lakes and rivers
Carrying people on to nature without shivers
Flora and fauna, labs and factories
Providing joy and rendering life satisfactory
Schools and colleges, Temples of Learning
Dispelling darkness in all our dwellings!

Man from the milky moon
Gone back to his lovely home
Happily through the marvellous spaceship
Nicely built with Indian leadership
To build a Bharath of his dream in his world
And make his home, a world of gold!

NO SHADOW DAY August 23rd.

What a wonderful creation of God the Almighty,
Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient-mighty!
Sun and moon, stars and planets, sky and earth, hills and mountainside
Nature’s manifestation-God’s magnificence- indeed great!

Shadows -morning to noon and noon to evening lovely watch
Long shadows getting smaller and smaller-growing taller
And taller- bad friendship morn to noon shadow like and good
Friendship is like noon to evening shadow like- nature’s beauty!

Lack of shadow is beautiful!Happens twice a year,
For places between twenty three point five plus and minus
Degrees latitude! The Sun is almost never exactly overhead
At noon, but transits a bit lower in altitude, a bit
To the north or south. Earth’s rotation axis is inclined
To the plane of its revolution around the Sun – varies seasons!.
Sun, in its highest point of the day, will move south to North
Of the celestial equator-Uttarayan and Dakshinayanin a year!.
The northern most and southern most two solstices,
And the crossing of the Sun across the equator two equinoxes.

For people living between the degrees referred the Sun’s declination
Equals to their latitude twice On these two days, the Sun
Will be exactly overhead at noon and will not cast a shadow on the ground.
This Zero Shadow Day falls today in Namakkal District of Tamil Nadu!

GALILEO DISCOVERS!(7th January)

India that is Bharath my Holy and sacred Motherland
Was the master of astrology based on astronomy grand
For centuries and centuries- the earliest in the world
Sun and moon, planets and stars –their movements well studied and researched!

We gave the exalted position to the astronomical
Phenomena- as Gods in all our temples-Navagrahas
Offer prayers all the days around the year- their movements
Planet to planet-with special prayers invoking their grace!

To day was the day that saw Galileo discovering first
Three satellites of Jupiter- in Sixteen Ten-deemed to be great!
Galeileo Galeilei astronomer, physicist, engineer,
Philosopher, Mathematician-Father of Modern Physics!

Father of observational astronomy, father of the
Scientific method- Father of Scince- his findings rejected by the clergy
Kept under house arrest for decades-peculiar is the
Way of the world! We salute him as we salute Rishi-Scientists!

UNIVERSE ON THE MOVE Part 42

XXXIX

In the particle of a star
Shattered to pieces
Oh, LIGHT
You were born!
Light object!
Easily seen light!
A man on this earth
Sure can magnify
Keep in high pedestal
An atom of light
Million times!
Be happy
Accept
Till the Universe
Expands and
Contracts
And becomes one
Add to your
Speed
Increase your
Enthusiasm
In the Brightness of the Light!
If another Universe
Vacant worlds
Different worlds
Are found hidden
In a far of darkness
Lying down
Rushing up
Show me
Their beauty
Beauty of power
Their wonders
And get me up!
Oh, Light!
Run, run fast
Non-stopping
Rise in joy
Go, go at great speed
No vacant space
No vacant world!
Race beyond the borders of space!
Neutrino
More lighter atoms
Are there
Oh, Light!
With greater power of atomic rays
With higher speed
Try to overtake you
With joy
With pleasure
With happiness
In a spirit
Spirit of a sprinter
Try to overtake you!
Run, run, go on running
Without rest or respite!
Ah! Vow!Sorry
Neutrino has overtaken you
A bit overtaken you!!

UNIVERSE ON THE MOVE Part 41

XXXVIII
The Universe
Full to the brim with lights
Universe
Filled to the brim with heat!
Universe
Overflowing with objects!
Universe
To the brim with atmosphere!
Universe
Full to the brim with magnetic zones!
Universe
To the brim with hot balls-fire balls!
Universe
Overflows with volcanoes!
Universe
Overflowing with the heaps
Heaps of black and big power!
How the Universe moves
It moves well!
How active is Universe
It is going active as it should!
Universe how it is to come to an end
It is sure to come to a great end!
UNIVERSE
Why did it come to existence?
Why it should come into being?
What for it has to exist?
Why should it exist?
For answers to such questions
This commoner’s little knowledge
It becomes scientific deaf!
These are the puzzles
These are the riddles
These are the challenges
Defying answers!!!!
Oh, LIGHT
Carry on, run, rush
Hasten to touch
Hasten to reach
The borders of the UNIVERSE!
Go on
Non-stop
Go on
In this long journey
In this arduous travel
In this Nature’s journey!!!

MUHARRAM on October First

Muharram the first month of the Islamic year is great
Second holiest month after Ramadan month- a treat
Muharam not a festival but a month long fasting
Almost mourning over Immam Hussain’s valiant death.

On Ashura, Muhammad’s grandson, Imman Hussain,
Died fighting in the Battle of Karbala almost fourteen
Centuries ago naturally a sad event mourned by all
Fasting , praying and mourning the day is spent all over.

Day differs among Shias and Sunnis in principle
All pious and devoted Muslims Allah’s disciples
And ofcourse on the sighting of the moon in the month
But a day sacred and holy all observing with faith.
