Sri Vasavi Maatha is hailed  for promoting peace and Ahimsa
During the Eleventh century. She averted war and saved many lives
Through logic and reason and overcame brute force. She taught the world
Harming others is not the way forward but bringing a change of heart
Is what matters in averting wars.She is placed in heavenly stature

As a goddess she is “Kula Daivam” . She is the caste goddess
For the Arya Vyshya, Kalinga Vaishya, Arava Vysyier, Marathi Vaishya, Beri Vysya and Trivarnika Vysya community says Vasavi Puranamulu in Telugu.
We venerate her as Shanti Matha Vasavi who promoted
Ahimsa for the benefit of all mankind and averted warfare and
Loss of life through peace and reason. Her actions brought a change of heart
In the King who  became a Jain Monk handing over his kingdom to his son
On this holy day let us visit her nearby temple and offer prayers!

One  such noble soul is from Tamilnadu-Ramana Maharshi
Born on December thirtieth Eighteen Seventy nine and lived
Up to Fourteenth April Nineteen Fifty Hindu sage and jivanmukta.

Venkataraman known as Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi.
Born in Tiruchuli,  attracted by the sacred hill Arunachala and
The  Nayanmars sixty three  aroused in him, to be in Thiruvnnamalai.
He left his uncle’s home in Madurai, and journeyed to the holy mountain
Arunachala, in Tiruvannamalai, where he took on the role of a
Sannyasin  and remained for the rest of his life.

ASH WEDNESDAY 26th February

A cross marked from ash or dust on a worshiper’s forehead

Every religion has its own philosophy and principles,

Ash Wednesday  holy day  preceded by Shrove Tuesday
And falls on the first day of Lent the six weeks of penitence
Before Easter. Ash Wednesday  traditionally observed by
Western Christians.Observed by Anglicans, Catholics in the Roman Rite, Lutherans, Methodists, Moravian, Nazarene,
Independent Catholics,  many from the Reformed faith.

Ash Wednesday gets its name from the placing of repentance
Ashes on the foreheads of participants to either the words
“Repent, and believe in the Gospel” or the dictum “Remember that you are dust,
And to dust you shall return.”The ashes are prepared by burning
Palm leaves from the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebrations.

Thaipusam a combination of the month, Thai and  star Pusam.
Festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a
Vel “spear” so he could vanquish the evil Demon Soorapadman.
Thaipusam marks Murugan’s birthday when young and old carry ‘kavadis’.

What stress can do can be experienced- more important is to be aware of stress
And the ways to be away from or not to fall a victim to stress!

Today April sixteenth is National Stress Awareness Day. The day
Designed by the Health Resource Network in nineteen ninety two to raise
Awareness of stress. Day is a chance to take a deep breath and relax.
Stress has a negative effect on the immune system -research has proved.

Chronic stress takes greater toll on our body than acute stress.
Raises blood pressure, increases the risk of heart attack and stroke,
Anxiety and depression, hastens the aging process.
Stress is one omnipresent
Easily coped sure by the competent
On the body and on the mind
On the soul and on the intellect
Age and sex, wealth and status
Stress of-course has little respect!

Faith in God, self and people
Fair to all with love and scruple
Thoughts noble and deeds worthy
Happy hobbies and habits healthy
Yoga sure a medicine for stress
Love for nature, animals and people

It is a symbol of long life for husband. Mangalasutra,
Bindia, mascara, nuthani, earflowers, henna, bracelet,
Red color chunari, beecha, anklet, waistband, ring, armlet, gaara!

Great national poet Mahakavi Bharathiyar declared
“To be born as a woman on earth, great penance one should have made”!
That is the veneration our Motherland shows for woman
This day we observe as “National Girl Child Day”-respect by man!

Alas a pity in a land that reveres Woman as Goddess
In forms many- sad we get news of insults on women each day
In one part of the country or other to be ashamed of-sad!

Equal they are in HIS creation -distinct role they have to play
Noble family they make and more responsible than the menfolk
Today’s GIRL CHILD is tomorrow’s WOMAN- let us celebrate the day
And resolve to take care of the girl child much more than the boy!

SAINT ALPHONSA FEAST DAY-28th JULY

Kerala born little girl named Anna chosen by Jesus
To carry HIS sufferings right from her childhood precious!
She became Saint Alphonso -lived hardly years thirty five
A symbol of carrying the sufferings of her supposed spouse.

She wrote in her spiritual diary:
“I do not wish to act or speak according to my inclinations.
Every time I fail, I will do penance…
I want to be careful never to reject anyone.
I will only speak sweet words to others.
I want to control my eyes with rigour.
I will ask pardon of the Lord for every little failure
And I will atone for it through penance.
No matter what my sufferings may be, I will never complain
And if I have to undergo any humiliation,
I will seek refuge in the Sacred Heart of Jesus”.

Yes, she is in the Sacred Heart of Jesus blessing all
An Indian born great Saint- taking care of all standing tall
Today is HER feast day- let us take care of the poor and feed
Show our concern for the world on this holy day- a great need!
