Ages were there when the human beings coexisted
With all living beings and nature with all its splendor
Enjoying fresh air free from dust at homes and streets,
Clean and pure water free from bacteria and insects.

No pollution of any kind, no contamination
Young or old, men or women enjoyed health and happiness
Lived and enjoyed long life, quiet, active and serving
It has become a thing of the past- health humiliating!

National Vaccination Day is today- let not go
Give those two polio drops to the children on time
And save them from the sufferings from the scourge of polio
We elders owe it to them and us for a polio free world!

N. R. Viswanathan, my beloved father, guiding from his heavenly abode.

Oh, my beloved God-my father revered and respected
It is years thirty today since you took your heavenly abode
I feel you are with me every minute now than when you were
Alive in flesh and blood till you were eighty seven clear.

In your life time you were a role model for many many
As a dutiful teacher, you won their hearts-with love worshiped they
For your love, knowledge, methods, discipline as a school Headmaster
Said they, “think of him, take exams, you score high”-treated as pastor.

Physically we are orphaned but you guide at every moment
From your heavenly home- you watch my morning walk and each movement
My habits and hobbies you taught me in my early days quite strong
I shall follow till my hundred -just years twenty four away along!

HIS blessings brought me the ARIVUKKALANJIYAM AWARD- the latest.

Where was the language millions of years ago!
Animals and humans, trees and plants, hills and mountains
All speak a language one or the other today sure
Language includes dialects sans a form very pure.

Hundreds of languages all over the world they speak
May be dialect-language helps understand we seek.
Mother language taught by mother is indeed great
None to feel ashamed to speak-certainly a treat!

International Mother Language Day is today
UNESCO declared   to promote peace and multilingualism.
Let us take pride in learning and speaking boldly
Also take pleasure in learning  other languages deftly!

While on the point of VIEWS, I have to report that till 26th January this year, the highest in a day was 247. To my great delight, 27th January recorded the highest day’s SCORE as 299! What a great encouragement and inspiration! Out of the 299, mostly read post was VALLUVAM INSPIRED MAHATMA GANDHI- a subject that was so dear to my heart. It was my paper  submitted in the International Thirukkural Conference held in Washington in 2006 and subsequently posted in this Blog on second October 2015.
During the period between Part 14 and part 15, besides my Monday-Saturday posts, Sunday Stories have carried the views of two of our relatively new Viewers viz JAGAN ON ENVIUS THOUGHTS on 8/1/2017. Mr N Jagannathan is the PRO of SEVALAYA. The second one is Shri Ramamurthi from Bangalore whose views were posted on 22/1/2017.

Since the last Tale Part 14, there have been a few happenings which I would like to share with my esteemed viewers.

It was indeed a great occasion and a detailed story was posted under the caption :IN THE WONDERLAND OF FLAMINGO POETS!” on the first day of the current year ie on 1/1/2017 in ENVIUS THOUGHTS in https://nvsr.wordpress.com

On the same day in the evening in a pleasant function in Chennai, I was awarded the title “KAVI NILAVU” for my contribution to Tamil Poetry world.

There is an excellent group of Tamil Poets, speakers, writers and scholars under the banner of “SANTHA VASANTHAM” founded a decade and half ago in Chennai having members from several parts of the world. Founder is ‘Kavi MaamaNi’,  ‘KAVI VEZHAM’ Shri Ilandhai Ramaswami, a great Tamil poet. This entire group consists of excellent Tamil poets and it is my fortune that I, a VOP- Very Ordinary Person- could get acquainted, get entry and accepted as a member! Periodically they meet for about 6 hours, exchange pleasantries over breakfast and lunch, discuss literary matters, release books and have poetry rendering by all present. This was the first golden opportunity I got to attend. Each of the intending poet to render his poetry was given a line from the great National Poet Mahakavi Subrahmanya Bharathi and a Tamil poem in not more than 32 lines was to be presented.

A title  “PERUM KAVICH CHUDAR” was conferred on the great poet HARIKRISHNAN by KAVIKKO Gnanachchelvan. Isaikkavi Ramanan and Advocate Bharathi devotee Ravi spoke in detail about the quality of head and heart of Shri Harikrishnan.   Each speaker was introduced in a poetic language that was indeed unique and great. Poet Harikrishnan chaired the Poets’ Meet.

A book of letters to his wife in Tamil poems “KANANGALAI NIRUTHTHIYA KADITHANGAL” (The Letters that stopped the moments”) by KavimaamaNi Ilandhai Ramaswamy- first of its kind- letters in Tamil poetry written to his wife when he was away on profession, was released by Prof. Dr. V V Subramanian on the occasion and was scholarly reviewed by Shri Dakshinamurthi.

To a great extent the credit for the success of the Meet should go to Shri Kumar from Singapore, who was coordinating from there and came to Chennai a week in advance for the Meet and organized in an enviable manner.

There is a literary organization here in Chennai by name M T S Academy. Their main objective is to popularize the tenets of Valluvam-as propounded by Tamil Saint Poet Thiruvalluvar in his magnum Opus THIRUKKURAL written 2300 years ago.

This Academy in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra and NSS University of Madras in a gala function arranged in the Senate Hall of Madras University, honored four eminent scholars and me as is seen in the above card.

M T S Academy is well known to me for quite a few years as its Secretary Dr.Cheyon is very efficiently managing its multifarious activities including conducting Personality Development Programs free to the youth. I used to handle Time Management and Stress Management in those courses. Publication of a quarterly Science journal titled ARIVIYAL POONGA in Tamil and Science workshops in colleges are organized. Credit for Government of India-Ministry of Railways naming a long distance train from Tamilnadu to Nizamudin as TIRUKKURAL EXPRESS goes entirely to this Organization!

Some of the photographs taken on the occasion are included below:

Five were awarded on the day.

There is a nice organization named CHENNAI POETS’ CIRCLE with which I was connected closely till a few years ago. Aim of this circle is to bring in the Ambassadors of peace called Poets within its area and promote peace and harmony in the society through the medium of poetry. Somehow due to personal reasons/mishaps, I was away from their activities and on the occasion of their Seminar this year I attended the Meet along with my ward Miss Nivetha S -17 year old young poet delegate, presented our poems –  she her “SISTER OH SISTER” and I “DANCE OF THE WIND” –both were well received by the co poet delegates from many parts of India.  The day was quite enjoyable.. A detailed account is given in my ENVIOUS THOUGHTS in https://nvsr.wordpress.com under the title AMIDST AMBASSADORS OF PEACE on 31st January as “Month end story”. Kindly view and comment.

Kindly watch next week’s 6 posts in a novel attempt to listen to
1. Song of a squirrel on 6th
2. Song of a sapling on 7th
3. Song of a seeker on 8th
4. Song of a sparrow on 9th
5. Song of a saint on 10th and
6. Song of a serpent on 11th !

This much I believe, is enough for this “Tale Of A Blogger” and we shall meet as usual daily by God’s grace. Thanks for your patient views and views.

A group photo taken in the Seminar.

Yes, I mean a great day I had “AMIDST THE AMBASSADORS OF PEACE”-lovely poets and members of the scholarly CHENNAI POETS’ CIRCLE in their ANNUAL SEMINAR on English Poetry in India and the release of EFFLORESCENCE 2016-An Anthology of Poetry at the World University Service Center in Chennai on Sunday the 29th January.

It all to me and Nivetha started with an email communication of December 5th, 2016 from Ms.Hema Ravi soliciting poems to the forthcoming Anthology EFFLORESCENCE. I had in my stock “DANCE OF WIND” but poor Nivetha sat right earnest on her return from the school and created her “SISTER OH, SISTER”. She was indeed delighted that her poem was accepted for the Anthology and our wait for the day 29th January 2017 started! And then the day dawned to be ‘AMIDST AMBASSADORS OF PEACE.’

A few years ago, I was a part of Chennai Poets’ Circle and due to several personal reasons, I could not attend and I was delighted to meet my old friends after I long time in the Seminar. My mind went back to the days of our contacts with Poet Dr. Srinivasa Rangaswamy an active member of the CPC who is no more and Dr. Krishna Srinivas of the POET who was Bhishma Pithamaha for many, many poets –seniors and in the making. His more than half a decade poetic journal “POET” inspired me to launch my “YOUNG POET” as a millennium gift to the young poets –by definition less than 25 years of age-. It was in the year 2000 and now it is 2017 and gets published as an e-zine!

I was particularly happy to meet respected Poet Madam Padmaja Aiyengar who created a history in November 2016 by wonderfully organizing an INTERNATIONAL MULTILINGUAL POETS’ MEET in Vijayawada and releasing the India Book of Records recognized Anthology AMARAVATI PRISM with 527 poems in 53 languages ! I could also meet a few of the poets who attended that Meet on November 13th and 14th. Mrs.Hema Ravi told me earlier that Madam Padmaja Aiyengar was indeed an inspiration to them!

Well, a good number of poets assembled in the hall on time with Invocation followed by a nice Welcome address by Dr. M Thirumeni, Chairman of the CPC- who retired as the HOD and the Principal of Rajah Serfoji College, Thanjavur. His short and sweet address brought certain points for deliberations later based on the discussions in a convention in Nagpur recently.

CPC President Dr. S. Kannan in his presidential address after introducing the Chief Guests gave a clue on the matters to crop up in the Seminar.

Then came the Chief Guest’ address delivered by the sweet voiced Dr. T. Sriraman, formerly Professor of the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. He discussed a wide spectrum of English language, evolution of Poetry etc. I enjoyed his words “I am not a poet but I taught poetry”! Some of the points he described in an interesting way to the ordinary listeners like me: Defamiliarization, Stylistics, Language-standard and poetic, Foregrounding as a dominant literary device, Deviant syntax, Deviant Collocation- quoting examples from John Milton, John Dryden, Kamala das, K. Pankajam, Dilip Mohapatra and others.

His explanation for “Literary language is an aesthetically purposeful distortion of standard language” indeed was quite interesting.

“Style as an exploitation of all the resources of the language” was very informative.

He also dealt with a few other literary points that were well received.

Dr. K. Ganesh, HOD, Department of English, Madras Christian College in his resounding, scintillating voice gave the history of the evolution of English poetry at the global and our national level.

After release of the anthology “EFFLORESCENCE 2016” by Dr. Sriraman, a few other books were released.

EFFLORESCENCE 2016 is a very qualitative anthology of English poems-with beautiful lay out and a good quality of printing comprising 97 poems by 57 poets from different parts of India.

Joint Secretary Mr. Jayaram Seshadri presented the Annual Report.

The CD of Nursery Poems by Mrs. Hema Ravi was also released.

With a pleasant Vote of Thanks by Treasurer B. Jayaraman, the first session came to a glorious end.

After tea, Second Session started. It was the reading of poems coordinated by Dr. S. Radhamani, Vice-President of the CPC. First to present the poem was the youngest poet delegate- as rightly described by Ms. Hema Ravi- STAR of THE MEET 17 year old 12th standard student of local Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School Miss. S.  Nivetha, who presented her poem titled SISTER OH, SISTER which was well received and appreciated by other poet delegates from Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Kerala.

After lunch, there was the next session on the presentation of papers by Prof. Rasupathy, Central University, Prof. Sharmila of Loyolo College, Pushpalatha of Presidency College, Dr. Padma Priya from Karnataka under the Chairpersonship of Dr. Reddy.

Dr. Reddy fondly remembered the Bishma Pithamaha Dr. Krishna Srinivas who edited the monthly poetic journal POET for more than five decades. He was responsible to bring out the poetic talents of the young and old all over the globe as the Editor of Poet and the Anthologies, Founder President of World Poetry Society Intercontinental and the Co founder of the World Congress of poets.

After the papers were presented on the evolution of Poetry- as Indian Writing English- English Indian poetry, second session of poetry reading started under the coordination of the Poet Shri RM Shanmugam Chettiar.

The poets in alphabetical order of names presented their creations in an attractive manner.

After vote of thanks and National Anthem, the Seminar came to a grand finale.

Yes, it was indeed a great day in the midst of Ambassadors of Peace-viz poets from the East and west, north and South of my Motherland India that is Bharath.

In this story, I have tried to present a fair picture of the proceedings of the CPC Annual Seminar and Release of EFFLORESCENCE 2016 on my own that is unasked and unsolicited by any. Quite possible that due to age, I might have failed to present a more clear and comprehensive report of the Seminar that will remain ever green in the minds of the poet delegates and others who had the fortune of attending!

A personal point: as I have already referred to earlier, I was an active member of the CPC till a few years ago. I hope I will continue that association now on wards.

I must thank Shri B. Jayaraman, the Treasurer of the CPC who expecting my presence brought and handed over to my great delight and surprise two of the photographs taken quite a few years ago – one my presentation of  poem in a similar Meet organized and the other one when I offered a shawl to Dr. Krishna Srinivas.
