ITHAKA POEM 739- I LOVED YOU!

Dear friend,

As I am very busy, so I have selected a poem published many years ago by POINT (a selection of modern Catalan poetry). As every Friday I send you the new poem. Fuster is one of the most important modern Catalan poets. The bad news is that the local – nationalistic – government of this city does not want to support financially the 11th edition of The Poetic Evening Concerts of Ithaca which I have been organizing 10 years before the covid epidemy: three concerts of excellent classical music, poetry reading for our international public by me in 5-6 languages and exhibition of paintings. But there is also good news, I received from my Chilean publisher a parcel with a beautiful edition of Tiempo Prestado (Borrowed Time), three of my poetry books published in one book with a beautiful cover, a painting by van Gogh. Looking forward to your translation

Best regards

Germain

I don’t know if you loved me: I loved you
and that was all, and that was enough, and the days

made for me the tenderest angles.
I loved you with the hours and with the dream,
and sang of you, and you passed by, and it became April
and through you I knew the wondering of my flesh.

Yes, I loved you, slow and deaf,
the way withered things love one another,
the way one learns the language of absence.

  1. The beauty of love lies in loving despite the fact you aren’t loved….

    It doesn’t anticipate reciprocity….

If the loved one is happy, you are happy too…

Blissful is to be the owner of this attitude!
